Recyclability of packaging at Nature & Respect Recycling as a measure against environmental pollution

Recclingfähige Verpackung von Nature & Respect

As a society, we face many different tasks nowadays. Economic challenges or climate change are omnipresent. In this article, Nature & Respect would like to focus on another major challenge of our time - environmental pollution. The food industry plays a significant role in this, as it produces a considerable amount of packaging materials.

We want to take a closer look at the recyclability of packaging in the food industry and shed light on the crucial role recycling plays in the fight against environmental pollution, waste prevention and climate change. In addition, we will show what steps we as Nature & Respect have already taken to adress the problem of waste generation and pollution.

Recycling at Nature & Respect

Sustainability is a central idea of Nature & Respect's corporate philosophy. Starting with the many owner-operated, rural farms with which we work in trust as partner breeders, to the slower breeding of our free-range animals, to the packaging our customers find in the supermarket.

Nature & Respect is part of the food industry and faces unique challenges when it comes to packaging recyclability. Our packaging needs to keep our high quality food fresh and protected from external influences, which often requires the use of complex packaging solutions. In general, this can make packaging difficult to recycle because it is made of different materials or contaminated with food scraps. A good example of this is so-called composite packaging, which combines multiple layers of materials to make food last longer.

At Nature & Respect, we have been trying to do our part for several years and use materials for our packaging that have been recycled and can be recycled again. The trays of our chicken and turkey products are made of at least 50% recycled material and can be 100% recycled and reused afterwards. Since 2020, we also use trays made of plastic monomaterial.

The role of consumers

Consumers also play a crucial role in promoting recycling in the food industry. By consuming consciously and opting for products in recyclable packaging, they can increase the demand for more environmentally friendly solutions. In addition, consumers have a responsibility to correctly dispose packaging by placing it in the designated bins.

This is because the proper separation of packaging and food scraps is also of great importance. Contaminated packaging is more difficult to recycle and can contaminate entire loads of recyclable materials, making it more difficult to reuse those materials. Therefore, consumers and businesses alike should take care to dispose packaging properly.

The importance of recycling when it comes to the fight against environmental pollution

The recyclability of packaging in the food industry is crucial to protecting our environment and fighting climate change. In this task, it's important for everyone to do their part. At Nature & Respect, our focus on free-range farming, the slower raising of our animals and our recyclable packaging offer consumers the opportunity to make a sustainability choice when they do their shopping. However, there is still much to do, but with many small actions we can make a big impact.
